How We Built a Financial Planning Platform With 33 Calculators for a Licensed Canadian Advisor

The Challenge
What YourFinancePlug Needed
Financial advice is one of the hardest categories on the internet to rank in. Google treats money and health content as "Your Money or Your Life", holds it to a far higher standard than an ordinary site, and the pages already ranking belong to the Government of Canada, the big banks and national comparison sites. The client is one licensed advisor competing against all of them, and a single wrong number on a page about someone's retirement is not a typo, it is a liability.
Competing Against Government Pages
The top results for most Canadian money questions belong to canada.ca and the major banks, which have decades of authority behind them.
Every Figure Carries Risk
Contribution limits, tax brackets and health waiting periods change yearly, and a stale number on a financial site is worse than no number at all.
Regulated From Every Direction
Insurance licensing, protected job titles, anti-spam law and two separate privacy regimes all constrain what the site is allowed to say and store.
One Advisor, Two Provinces
He may only transact in Alberta and Newfoundland, so the site has to educate the whole country while soliciting in only two places.
No Technical Client
Everything that changes yearly had to be editable by the advisor himself, without a developer and without breaking anything.
Our Approach
How We Built It
We built the whole platform on Laravel around a single principle: the site never states a number it cannot prove. Every regulatory figure is stored with the government page it came from and the date it was checked, and the calculators refuse to answer at all rather than guess. That constraint shaped the architecture, and it is also the reason the site can compete for trust against much larger competitors.
A Verified-Data Gate
170 government figures, each stored with its source URL and the date it was read. Any figure without one returns nothing, so the page shows an honest gap instead of a plausible guess.
33 Calculators, All Server-Side
TFSA and RRSP room, income tax by province, mortgage affordability with the stress test, life insurance needs, newcomer health coverage gaps and more. The browser never does the arithmetic, so there is one correct answer.
Built for How Newcomers Actually Search
Contribution room accrues from the year you arrive, not the year you turn 18. Most national articles get this wrong. Every calculator asks the question that makes the answer right for the reader.
A 100-Page SEO Architecture
Hub-and-spoke internal linking across guides, calculators, province and city pages, with one page owning each search query so the site never competes against itself.
Compliance Built Into the Code
Booking is gated to the provinces he is licensed in, his job title changes automatically on pages aimed at provinces where that title is protected, and every privacy promise on the site is enforced by a scheduled job rather than just written down.
A Backoffice He Runs Himself
Leads, subscribers, pages, the government figures and a search-health report, all editable from a dashboard, with each figure showing its source and asking him to confirm it in his own name.

Every calculation, every compliance rule and every privacy claim is covered by a test, so a future change cannot quietly break a number somebody is relying on.
