How Much Does SEO Cost in Nigeria? (2026 Prices)
What Nigerian agencies actually charge for SEO in 2026, from ₦50,000 to ₦1,500,000 a month, what sits inside each figure, and when the real fix is a rebuild.
Quick answer: Published Nigerian agency pricing in October 2026 runs from about ₦50,000 to ₦1,500,000 per month, and most agencies that explain their numbers land between ₦100,000 and ₦500,000 monthly for an ongoing retainer. A one-off audit is usually quoted separately, from around ₦150,000 for a small site. The monthly figure matters less than what is inside it, and a site with broken foundations will burn a retainer for months before it moves.
What Nigerian Agencies Actually Publish
Most SEO quotes in Nigeria are given privately, which is why the question keeps getting asked. A few agencies do publish, and their numbers agree more than you would expect.
SoniBaze Digital publishes four tiers: ₦50,000 to ₦100,000 a month at the bottom, then ₦100,000 to ₦250,000, then ₦250,000 to ₦500,000, and ₦500,000 to ₦1,500,000 and above for the most competitive work. Nelium Systems puts the honest middle at ₦100,000 to ₦500,000 per month, with a technical audit and strategy priced separately from around ₦150,000 for a small site to ₦600,000 and above for a large ecommerce site, and local SEO setup from around ₦80,000 to ₦250,000. Other published Nigerian guides sit inside the same band, with the widest quoting up to ₦1,500,000 a month for enterprise work.
So the market answer is a range, and a wide one. That is not evasion. SEO for a five-page business site in Osogbo and SEO for a national ecommerce store with four thousand product pages are not the same job, and no single number covers both.
The Monthly Figure Is the Wrong Starting Question
A retainer is a rate, not a scope. Two agencies can both quote ₦200,000 a month and deliver completely different work, and the quote alone will not tell you which is which.
The more useful question is: what does this money buy in month one, and how will I know whether it worked?
A retainer that buys four blog posts a month on a site that Google cannot crawl properly is money spent on nothing. A retainer that buys a technical fix, a page restructure and a Google Business Profile rebuild in the first month can move a site before the second invoice.
What You Are Actually Paying For
Almost every real SEO engagement is made of five kinds of work. When you compare quotes, compare these, not the headline rate.
- The audit. A full check of how Google crawls and indexes the site, speed on mobile, titles and headings, thin or duplicate pages, broken links and redirects, structured data and what Search Console already shows. This is usually a one-off cost and it is the only part that tells you whether the rest is worth buying.
- Technical fixes. Indexing problems, redirects, page speed, image weight, structured data. The unglamorous half, and usually where the problem is. Watch for agencies that deliver the list but expect your developer to implement it, because that cost is then yours.
- On-page work. Titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal links and the actual words on the page, with each page mapped to one search so your own pages stop competing with each other.
- Local SEO. Google Business Profile, consistent name, address and phone details across directories, and location pages that say something real about the place. This is what puts you in the map results, and for a Lagos service business it is often the fastest return in the whole list.
- Off-page work. Links from relevant sites and citations in business directories. The slowest and the easiest to fake, so ask exactly where links will come from.
Why a Cheap Retainer Is Usually the Expensive Option
At ₦40,000 or ₦50,000 a month, nobody is running a technical audit, rewriting page structure and doing outreach. What that money realistically buys is a monthly report and some social posting. A year of it is roughly ₦500,000 spent without moving, which would have funded several months of work that did.
The reverse trap is just as real. A large monthly figure on a site with a broken build is a subscription to a problem. If a site cannot be indexed properly, or the pages were never written for anything anyone searches, the retainer pays for someone to push against that every month instead of fixing it once.
When the Real Cost Is a Rebuild, Not a Retainer
This is the part most pricing guides leave out, because most SEO agencies do not build websites.
A good share of Nigerian businesses asking what SEO costs do not have an SEO problem. They have a website problem that SEO is being asked to compensate for: a template with one page per service and nothing specific on any of them, a title tag that says "Home", no Google Business Profile, and a build nobody can edit without calling the developer back.
On a site like that, the honest quote is not a monthly retainer. It is the cost of fixing the foundation, after which a much smaller amount of ongoing work actually holds.
That is why we quote SEO only after a free audit when the site is not one we built, and why every website we build already includes at least two months of hands-on SEO at no extra cost. A business website with us starts from ₦250,000 and an online store from ₦400,000, and the SEO afterwards is part of it rather than a separate monthly line. The full breakdown is on our website pricing page.
What That Looks Like With Real Numbers
IMT Computers, an FOA-accredited IT training institute in Ikeja, came to us with a site that was not being found. We rebuilt it around the searches its students actually make, fixed the technical SEO, optimised the Google Business Profile and kept working on it after launch.
In the two months after launch, from 18 July to 17 September 2026, their own Google Search Console recorded 928 clicks and 27,900 impressions at an average position of 7.1. They reached number one on Google for "FOA certification in Lagos" and were named in Google's AI Overview for it. The site took 46 student registrations in its first 10 days.
No separate SEO retainer was paid for that. It was part of the build. The numbers come from IMT's own Search Console screens, dated, and are shown in full in the IMT Computers case study.
We publish this because it is checkable, not because it is typical. Results depend on the market you are in, and anyone quoting you a guaranteed position is guessing.
How to Judge a Quote Before You Pay
- Ask what happens in month one. A good answer is specific: audit, then these fixes, in this order. A vague answer about "optimisation and content" is a rate without a scope.
- Ask who implements the fixes. If the agency only reports and your developer implements, add your developer's time to the quote.
- Ask to see a result in Search Console. Not a screenshot of a rankings tool. The client's own Search Console, dated, or a live site you can search for yourself.
- Ask what happens to the work if you stop. Technical fixes, page structure and a Google Business Profile stay yours. Rented links do not.
- Be careful with any guarantee. Google decides positions. What can honestly be guaranteed is the work and the reporting, not the outcome.
Our guide to checking whether a developer's results are real covers how to run these checks on anyone, including us.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does SEO cost per month in Nigeria?
Published Nigerian agency pricing in October 2026 runs from about ₦50,000 to ₦1,500,000 per month. Agencies that explain their scope mostly quote ₦100,000 to ₦500,000 monthly for ongoing work, with the top of the range reserved for competitive national or ecommerce campaigns.
How much does an SEO audit cost in Nigeria?
Published figures start around ₦150,000 for a small site and rise to ₦600,000 and above for a large ecommerce site with thousands of pages. We run the audit free before quoting, because the audit is what decides whether a retainer is the right answer at all.
Is cheap SEO at ₦40,000 a month worth it?
Rarely. At that rate nobody is running a technical audit, restructuring pages and doing outreach, so what you usually receive is a monthly report. The money is better spent on one proper audit and the fixes it finds.
How much do you charge for SEO?
Every website we build includes at least two months of hands-on SEO at no extra cost, inside a build that starts from ₦250,000 for a business website and ₦400,000 for an online store. For a website we did not build, SEO is quoted after a free audit, because the work depends entirely on what the audit finds.
How long before SEO pays for itself?
Most sites see meaningful movement within 4 to 12 weeks, and competitive searches take 3 to 6 months or longer. Our guide on how long SEO takes to work in Nigeria sets out a realistic month-by-month timeline.
Do I need SEO if my website is new?
A new website that was built with SEO planned in needs far less afterwards than one that was not. The decisions that matter most, page structure, URLs, titles and which search each page is for, are cheapest to get right before the site is built. Our guide to SEO website development in Nigeria explains what to decide first.
