What Should Be Included When You Pay for a Website in Nigeria
The twelve things that should be in a website quote in Nigeria, the six commonly charged as extras, and the questions that make two quotes comparable.

Quick answer: A complete website quote in Nigeria should include design and build, mobile layouts, on-page SEO, an SSL certificate, contact forms that reach you, Google Search Console and Business Profile setup, training, and an admin dashboard so you can edit your own content. Ask specifically about the admin dashboard, SEO after launch, who owns the hosting and domain, and what happens when you want a change, because those four are where quotes quietly differ.
Why Two Quotes Are Never Comparable
You ask three developers what a website costs. You get ₦120,000, ₦250,000 and ₦700,000, each as a single number with nothing behind it. The cheapest looks like a bargain until you find out what it excludes, and by then you have paid a deposit.
The price is not the useful question. What is inside it is.
The Twelve Things a Complete Quote Covers
- A design made for your business, not a theme with your logo dropped on it.
- Every page you agreed, listed in writing, with who writes the words.
- Mobile layouts, checked on real phones. Most of your visitors will be on one.
- On-page SEO during the build: titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, image alt text, structured data.
- Speed: compressed images, sensible hosting, a site that loads on mobile data.
- An SSL certificate installed and working, so browsers do not warn visitors.
- Contact forms that actually deliver, tested to your real inbox, with spam handling.
- Google Search Console and Analytics connected, so you can see what is happening.
- A Google Business Profile created or corrected if you serve a local area.
- An admin dashboard and a login, so you can edit content yourself.
- Training, so the dashboard is useful rather than intimidating.
- A handover: your hosting, your domain, your logins, in your name.
The Six That Are Usually Extra
These are the lines that separate a cheap quote from a complete one. Ask about each by name.
| Item | Why it matters | What it usually costs separately |
|---|---|---|
| Admin dashboard | Without it, every text change goes back to the developer | Charged as a feature, or not offered |
| SEO after launch | The weeks after launch are when indexing and technical faults settle | A monthly retainer |
| On-page SEO during the build | Retrofitting structure later costs more than doing it once | An "SEO package" on top of the design |
| SSL certificate | Browsers warn visitors without it | An annual line item |
| Search Console and Business Profile setup | Without them you are guessing about your own site | Often skipped entirely |
| Training | A dashboard nobody was shown does not get used | Charged by the hour |
At Website Developer Tech those six are inside the price rather than beside it, which is what our website prices set out from ₦250,000.
What Should Not Be Inside a Website Price
Being complete is not the same as bundling everything. These are fairly quoted separately, and a developer who folds them in silently is usually recovering the cost elsewhere:
- Your domain and hosting renewals, which are ongoing costs in your own name.
- Paid advertising and the budget behind it.
- Professional photography, video and logo design.
- Long-term content writing beyond the pages agreed.
- Custom features such as booking systems, portals or payment logic, which are scoped on their own.
The Four Questions That Make Quotes Comparable
- Can I edit the site myself afterwards, and can you show me the dashboard?
- What happens in the first two months after launch?
- Whose name are the hosting and the domain in?
- What is not included in this number?
The fourth question is the useful one. A developer who answers it plainly is one you can plan with. One who cannot is quoting for a job neither of you has defined yet.
A Fair Warning About the Cheapest Quote
Very low prices usually mean a template with your content pasted in, no structure for search, no dashboard, no handover of hosting, and no availability when something breaks. The money is not wasted immediately, it is wasted six months later when the site cannot be updated, does not rank and has to be rebuilt.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a deposit normal?
Yes. A deposit to start and the balance at launch is standard. Paying the full amount upfront is not.
Should the developer own my domain and hosting?
No. Both should be in your name, with your logins handed over. This is the single most common reason businesses cannot move developers later.
How many revisions should be included?
Enough to agree the design, stated in writing. Unlimited revisions usually mean the scope was never defined.
What if I want a new page next year?
With an admin dashboard you can often add it yourself. Structural changes are quoted as small jobs, and you should be told the rate before you start.
