Best Computer Training Institute in Lagos (2026 Guide)

Introduction

We build and optimize websites for businesses across Lagos, including several computer training institutes, which puts us in an unusual position to evaluate them: we don't just see the marketing copy, we see whether the results behind it actually check out. Here's what we look for, and who stands out.

What to Actually Check Before Enrolling

• Real accreditation, not just a claim. If an institute says it's certified by an international body, that status is usually verifiable directly through the accrediting organization, not just stated on their own site.

• Hands-on, practical training. Ask what equipment and lab time is actually included, not just theory slides.

• Verifiable outcomes. Real reviews, real graduate stories, and in the case of institutes with a strong SEO presence, real search rankings and traffic.

• Placement or industry support. Especially for SIWES and industrial training, whether the institute actually helps place students or just certifies them.

Notable Computer Training Institutes in Lagos

• IMT Computers: Ikeja, Lagos. FOA Accredited Training Centre (#718) for fiber optics, plus full stack web development, SIWES placement, and device repair training. Its website reached Google Page 1 with 46 registrations within 10 days of launch, a real, checkable result.

• HiiT PLC: Founded 1996, branches across Lagos including Ikeja, Surulere, and Yaba. Offers ICT fundamentals, software engineering, data science, and networking.

• Aptech: A global career education brand with over 25 branches across Nigeria, including several in Lagos, known for structured software development and web design programs.

• Decagon Institute: Focused on software engineering training, with a large graduate cohort placed into tech roles.

All are real, operating institutes. Which one is right for you depends on what you're training for, fiber optics and hardware differ significantly from software-focused bootcamps.

Why IMT Computers Stands Out

For fiber optics specifically, IMT Computers' FOA accreditation is a meaningful differentiator, not every institute advertising "fiber optics training" holds an internationally recognized credential behind it. Combined with SIWES placement support and a genuinely SEO-optimized web presence that backs up its claims with checkable rankings, it's a strong option for students who want more than a certificate at the end.

If your interest sits in network infrastructure rather than general computing, the fiber optic training track in Lagos goes far deeper into splicing, testing and certification than any general IT course will.

Accreditation should be your first filter, not your last. Our guide to verifying FOA accreditation in Nigeria shows you how to confirm a centre’s status in a few minutes.

Cost need not be the deciding factor. The World Bank IDEAS-TVET programme subsidises vocational training at participating Nigerian centres, and several institutes take part.

Decide the format before you decide the provider. Our comparison of online versus in-person IT training in Lagos covers the trade-offs.

Our own office is on Simbiat Abiola Road in Ikeja, a few minutes from most of these centres. If you need a site building rather than a course, that is what our Ikeja web design and development team does.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I verify if a training institute's accreditation is real?

Check directly with the accrediting body rather than relying on the institute's own website. For fiber optics specifically, the Fiber Optic Association maintains its own directory of accredited centers.

Is a cheaper training institute automatically a worse choice?

Not necessarily, but price alone isn't a reliable signal either way. Check accreditation, practical training time, and real outcomes before deciding based on cost.

Does IMT Computers offer SIWES placement?

Yes, IMT Computers offers structured SIWES and industrial training placement support for Computer Science and IT students.

Final Thoughts

Lagos has several legitimate computer training institutes, the differentiator is usually verifiable accreditation and outcomes you can actually check, not marketing claims. IMT Computers checks both boxes, particularly for fiber optics and SIWES placement.
